The magnificent elephant is one of one the most intelligent animals we know. But each day around 55 African elephants are killed for their tusks. Adopt an elephant and support our work.

Key populations are in decline due to poaching and a shrinking habitat. In Asia, elephants have disappeared from approximately 85% of their historic range, while in Africa, more African elephants are now being poached than born.

Adopt an elephant, support our work

Animal adoptions like yours give a huge boost to our work. Your symbolic adoption supports our work. In Adria, together with our partners, we are building awareness on the necessity for the coexistence of people with wildlife, maintaining a precious balance. Another major threat to that balance is wildlife crime and we are doing our best to stop it.

How does it work?

Did you know?

African elephants are family-oriented animals with a complex social structure. There are two types of herds — females with their young and bachelor herds — and lone males. Females remain with their natal group for life, sharing responsibility for calves, and males leave the herd once they reach maturity.

Asian elephants differ in several ways from their African relatives. They are much smaller in size and their ears are straight at the bottom, unlike the large fan-shape ears of the African species. Actually, African elephants have ears that are shaped like the African continent, while the Asian ones’ ears look like India!

Learn more about the elephant

The oldest known elephant in the world lived for 86 years (1917-2003). The average lifespan of an elephant is from 50 to 70 years.

Around 20,000 African elephants are poached every year. Across their range, elephants are killed for their tusks, meat and skin. Other threats facing elephants in Africa and Asia include conflict with humans and habitat loss and degradation.
